Inkcandescent was born in a quiet reckoning—a whisper to myself that I still mattered. That beneath the busyness and the giving and the proving, there lived a woman with fire and story and soul. This project became my mirror, my medicine. In photographing others who’ve etched their journeys into their skin, I began reclaiming my own. Each tattoo, a living poem. Each session, a sacred exchange. Through their stories, I found pieces of mine—resilience, beauty, truth, and the audacity to take up space.

There’s something holy about bearing witness to someone’s ink—because it’s never just about the art. It’s about what it meant when they got it. Who they were becoming. What they were surviving. Inkcandescent lets me honor both the mark and the meaning. It’s portraiture with pulse and presence. A celebration of identity in full color. And through every frame, I’m reminded: we are all walking stories, worthy of being seen, worthy of being remembered, and above all, worthy of being lit from within.

The Story Behind the Ink

Erin’s Story

Each of my tattoos are a visual memoir, capturing pivotal moments and cherished connections throughout her life. The hibiscus, my first tattoo, symbolizes my resilience and adaptability—traits that mirror the striking flower I’ve always been drawn to. Butterflies represent my daughters, Katerina and Lydia, embodying their transformation from crawling infants to independent young women taking flight. Two tiger lilies honour my grandparents, Phyllis and Jack, who stood tall and strong like the flowers they adored.

A mason jar and dill flower pay tribute to my Baba Jennie, a formidable woman who grew and canned enough food to nourish both family and community. Before she passed, I asked her what flower she loved most. Her response—“Why would you grow flowers? You can’t eat them, what a waste”—led me to choose the dill flower, a nod to my grandmother’s practical nature and enduring legacy. Each tattoo tells a story, marking a chapter in my life journey.

Step 2: Client Outreach – Help Me Share the Opportunity

This is where your support is key. Your clients already wear your art every day, and now they have the chance to have it immortalized as fine art photography. For $499, they’ll receive a one-of-a-kind experience that includes:

Professional hair and makeup to elevate their look.
One expertly crafted image of their choice.
A 15” x 20” printed and matted fine art portrait, featured in the November 23rd exhibition.

We’ll provide you with all the materials to make it easy to share, including social media posts, flyers, and direct messaging templates.

Step 3: Photo Session – Art Meets Fine Art Photography

Once your clients express interest, I’ll coordinate the photo sessions, handling all the logistics. The goal is to create bold, dramatic portraits that amplify the impact of your work and highlight the stories behind each piece. You’re welcome to be present during the shoot to see your work come to life under the lights.

Step 4: Gallery Feature – The Grand Showcase

Selected portraits will be featured in a captivating gallery exhibition on November 23rd at The Kent Vancouver. This is where your artistry will shine in a curated collection of fine art portraits, giving both you and your clients a powerful platform to share the stories behind the ink.
